The "Yes, Mum": Our Cocktail du Jour.

This one's for the moms in need of a moment! In a world so often full of "No's", you deserve a simple "Yes, Mum": our cocktail du jour chock full of fresh Market ingredients. Relax and unwind with this flexible, fresh, and flavorful concoction; if you've still gotta pick the kids up from practice, skip the vodka for a non-alcoholic treat just as full of flavor.

Find our recipe below and if you need help with home bartending basics, this helpful article from the Spruce Eats will walk you through cocktail shaking: How to Properly Shake a Cocktail.

What you'll need:

  1. Cocktail Shaker
  2. Cocktail Strainer
  3. Jigger or other liquid measurer
  4. Three Sprigs of Mint (grown in your lovely garden thanks to hearty plant starts from Skipping Stones Garden)
  5. Two Limes
  6. Johson Berry Farms Cascade Blackberry Jam (or Blackberry Inferno if you like it spicy 😈)
  7. Vodka (we suggest local Sandstone Distillery)
  8. Splash of fresh, sweet juice of your choice (pineapple is our favorite option, orange works great, but avoid anything bitter like Grapefruit).
  9. Splash of soda water (We suggest Lavender Lemonade, Lemongrass Ginger or Elderberry Hibiscus flavors of Probiotic Soda from Olykraut!)

What you'll do:

  1. Throw a couple sprigs of mint into the bottom of your cocktail shaker (hang on to one for garnish).
  2. Add a small "scoop" of jam: if you have a bar spoon (they're smaller than regular spoons), that's just the right amount. Just a dollop will do ya, and you can always add more to taste!
  3. Add 3/4 oz fresh lime juice (should get plenty out of one of your limes - save the other for garnish).
  4. Add a splash of your favorite sweet juice, like pineapple.
  5. Add 1.5 oz of Vodka.
  6. Add ice to your shaker (all the way to the top).
  7. Smack on that cocktail topper, make sure it's sealed, and shake, shake, shake what your momma gave you! (Important: you should not have any soda water in your cocktail shaker at this point, or you're in for a very explosive surprise!)
  8. Fill your serving glass with ice (your personal preference: tall and narrow, short and wide...we digress).
  9. Open up your cocktail shaker and strain your concoction over the ice.
  10. Top off with a flavored or non-flavored soda water of your choosing.
  11. Garnish: spank that mint (smack it against the back of your hand to open up the oils and aromatics) and slice a nice fresh wedge of lime.
  12. Sit back, relax, and enjoy to your hearts content.

Pairs best with that hidden sunny patch at the corner of your garden, and "Blues in the Night (My Momma Done Tol' Me)" by Ella Fitzgerald.
