Plan a Locally Sourced Feast at the Olympia Farmers Market

Whether you’re planning a large holiday feast or seeking comfort in cozy meals with your closest community, the Market is your destination for fresh local food. The temperate climate of the PNW means that farmers continue to bring fresh vegetables to the Market through the late autumn and winter months. Locally farmed meat, freshly caught seafood, bakeries, and artisanal food produce will help you turn any occasion into a special moment.

Produce farmers like Stoney Plains, Rising River, Skokomish Valley Farm, Roots and Fruits, Skipping Stone Garden, Sundowner Farm, MycoUpprhizal Mushrooms, and Piece by Piece Farm are at the Market every weekend with staples like mushrooms, potatoes, salad greens, carrots, turnips, celery, leeks, cabbage, daikon radish, and winter squash. Microgreens are a popular choice from Skipping Stone Garden and Roots and Fruits Farm and keep flavors like basil and cilantro on your plate, even when full-grown versions of these herbs are no longer available. Source your seasonal fruits such as cranberries, pears, and apples from Burnt Ridge Nursery, Maisy Moon Produce, and the Fresh Approach.

We love crunchy fall salads made with fresh greens, roasted squash, and sweet fruit. For added texture and a variety of flavors, sprinkle Earthling Food Company’s pumpkin seeds and Domina Dairy’s marinated feta on top. Roasted veggies with a hot honey glaze made with Hops Honey will entice picky eaters to return for seconds.

Locally farmed meat and wild-caught seafood is available each weekend. Forest-raised ham hock or pork chops from Chehalis Valley Farms are a comforting choice. Chops cooked with apples and shallots combine savory and sweet for a classic family dinner. Frozen chicken can be purchased in parts or as a whole bird from Skokomish Valley Farm and Riverbird Farm. Sea Blossom Seafood brings the sea to you with their locally caught salmon, cod, and mussels. The selection changes each week, so plan to adapt your menu based on what’s fresh that week. Stewart Meats continues to be at the Market for a wide selection of items like beef, turkey, summer sausage, pepperoni, and more.

Marinades crafted from local flavors give your meals a head-start to being delectably moist. Johnson Berry Farms offers sweet and spicy jam and dressings (Sage Cranberry, anyone?) Hot Babe Hot Sauce is currently offering their seasonal Sweet Quince pepper sauce. Wild Heart Sipping Vinegar creates micro-batches of sipping vinegars. One of their last concoctions was Spiced Plum with cinnamon and cloves. In addition to their classic sauerkraut, Olykraut also bottles their salty brines for you to incorporate more probiotics into your meals.

Don’t miss Tunawerth’s Herb Cheese Curds if you love charcuterie or enjoy high-quality snacks. Pair them with the vibrant offerings from Mediterranean Flavors, featuring over 12 varieties of hummus, perfect for fresh vegetables or toasted bread. Olympia Pickling Company delivers their signature pickled cucumbers, beets, and onions for a tangy twist.

Swing by the Market bakeries to grab an extra loaf of bread or a delightful dessert to share. From fruit pies and cheesecakes to cookies and more, you’ll find irresistible treats at Blue Heron Bakery, San Francisco Street Bakery, Wagner’s European Bakery, Bread Peddler, Baker/Potter, Teasecakes by Francesca, and Kawaii Donuts. Extra chocolate sweets can be found at Chehalis Mints. To complement your meal, consider a bottle of wine or cider. Try mead from Odin’s Alchemy Brewing, cider from Burnt Ridge Nursery, or fruit wine from Wynoochee River Winery—all crafted with fruit grown right here in Washington State.
