We're Hiring Market Staff for our 49th Season!

About the Market: Home to over 100 vendors, The Olympia Farmers Market is a vibrant community gathering space, beloved by our community, and is sustained in large part by an intangible relationship between the vendors and the community. We provide quality local goods sold by local people including seasonal fruits and vegetables, plant starts, cut flowers, seafoods, fresh and cured meats, baked goods, wine, condiments, confections, preserves, jewelry, woodworking, textiles, eight distinct restaurants, and many unique and artisanal goods.

We are seeking two part-time temporary Market Staff that share our passion for farmers markets, small scale local agriculture, access to healthy foods, and community enrichment. We look forward to hiring individuals that are personable and enthusiastic about customer service and promoting the Market to the community. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively and develop meaningful relationships with vendors, staff, customers, the board of directors, and community partners.

In 2024, we are hiring two Market Staff! Hours for each position are as follows. Please state your preference between the positions when applying.

Option A: $20.00/hour. 32hours/week, Thursday-Sunday

Option B: $20.00/hour. 16hours/week, Saturday-Sunday

Market Staff Job Description

Function: Market Staff is responsible for coordinating daily operations of the Market. Market Staff will provide customer service to Market shoppers, tabling non-profits, and other Market guests. The Market Staff will assist staff in keeping a functional and organized workplace.

Customer Service Duties :

·        Provide point of contact and basic information to shoppers and vendors.

·        Provide customer service to market shoppers inquiring about EBT, SNAP Market Match, WIC &Senior FMNP, Market tokens, and merchandise transactions.

·        Process EBT, SNAP Market Match, token, and credit card transactions.

·        Collect musician contracts and distribute musician payments.

·        Manage the placement of tabling non-profits, buskers, and street artists.

·        Maintains the presentation of the Market Outreach Table and is available to answer shopper questions.

·        Maintain a working knowledge of Market policies and food access programs.

·        Assists Market Director in enforcing shopper and vendor policies to encourage a safe environment for all.  

 

Clerical Duties:

·        Managment of multiple tills including a daily reconciliation.

·        Respond to phone calls and manage general email account during market days.

·        Update website with weekly vendor and musician schedule.

·       Manage Market merchandise display, sales, and inventory.

·        General office support duties including mailings, tracking, and stocking office supplies and handouts.

·       Cross train in all duties needed to maintain daily operations in the absence of other staff.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Supervision:  

The Market Staff reports directly to the Market Director.

 Compensation:

This is a part-time temporary position for April 4-October 27, 2024. Working hours align with the Market’s High Season schedule, meaning that weekend hours are required of all staff.

Qualifications:  

·        High School diploma required, some college preferred

·        Ability to communicate diplomatically with vendors and the public

·        Ability to manage multiple tills and make change

·        Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

·        Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work

·        Ability to follow oral and written instructions

·        Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

·        Team-oriented

·        Self-motivated

·        Attention to detail
